Saggy pants have been a huge topic for many years. children and young adults have been hearing from their parents and elders to pull up their pants on countless occasions What many of these people do not know is that public officials also have this same view of “PULL UP YOUR PANTS”. For years now many cities and states have been trying to get a law passed that bans a persons pants to be too low, in which exposes their underwear and or rear-end.
since March 30, 2008 One Florida city has already banned saggy pants. Those caught wearing their pants too low in Riviera Beach are breaking the law, and people who repeatedly show skin or underwear could face up to 60 days in jail. For students the Senate’s Proposal
For violating the saggy pants law the first time, the student would receive a verbal warning. The second time, he or she would face a three-day, in-school suspension. After the third violation, the student would face a 10-day, in-school suspension. After the fourth time, the student would be asked to leave school grounds and face out-of-school suspension.and this is nearly what they have spoken of in 2008.
since the Riviera Beach ban, Cocoa has also pulled for the saggy pants ban in 2010 since several cities across the country have passed indecency laws that ban baggy pants. Some people view the bans as an attack on an individual’s right to freedom of expression. Attempts for a statewide ban on saggy pants have failed in the legislature. According to Florida Today, Blake is calling on parents to take matters in their own hands when it comes to how their children dress.
considering many to nearly all schools have a dress code which does not allow a students pants to saggy and many parents have spoken to their child for such inappropriate attire. These actions seem to have no effect on the out come of this style of dress. in fact this dress style has increased over the years, and is many citizens to complain and vote to have a ban on this dress style. have the people taken the dress style too far? or is the public the real issue? Have parents and the community really put forth the effort to help those saggers or is it just falling on deaf ears?
So far the issue of the saggy pants has not found a resolve and officials in cocoa are no longer going to look at these saggy pants in select public areas starting in 2013. There will be a 60-day grace period to educate the public about the new ordinance.violators will receive Citations starting at $25, $50 for a second offense, $75 for a third and $100 for each offense after that.a citation will not be giving if a person complies right away. if they want to avoid paying the fine they can opt for community service.
