The Power of Self Writing
We all in some way write and communicate on a daily bases. Whether it’s writing an email, or writing a text, or blogging or even updating your Facebook or twitter account. The truth is we are all wrapped up in this technology web of communication. It’s apart of the world now and each day we are progressing and finding new ways to be in constant contact.
With the amount of communication to others. I wonder how many people write for themselves. When I m saying writing for yourself. I’m thinking more of the lines of journal writing. Poetry, song lyrics or just jogging thoughts down. Today I am going to explain some writing tips and the benefits of writing more for your mental health and how it can help you have a better grip on your life at stressful times.
I have been writing in a journal since December 26 2008. I’ve always wrote about my greatest times and the worst times. When I wrote about the happier times. I felt I was able to look at my success, and in a way I was self reflecting on my accomplishments I had achieved. Which gave me a higher sense of confidence and forever would have those moments of time locked away for ME to look back and enjoy.
When I wrote about the worst of times. My journal gave me a healthy space to vent and be angry. And, even if I was heated at the time I was able to say all those things you would later regret without actually having to hurt the person you were upset at. Eventually as you keep writing you realize what is really bothering you in the first place and eventually you were able to cool down and release a lot of stress.
You don’t always have to write in a journal. Poetry is a really great creative way to write your emotions down. Poetry is happy, sad, and angry. There is no limits when it comes to writing poetry. Also, the finish product can make you feel confident and good. Also people can respect true emotions. And find a way to relate to your emotions as well.
Now I have heard some excuses that people don’t write because they feel somebody might read it. I have an exercise for this situation. If I need to vent I write all my thoughts down read them back. Then once I got the understanding for what I need to write in the first place. I simply burn the pages. I got what I needed to get out and don’t have the stress of anybody reading it.
Let’s all admit it, we all have stress and sometimes talking to other people might not be the best answer. Writing your emotions down and not letting them boil up can truly improve mental health and help make a better you. Talking to yourself with creativity can be the best self reflection. No emotion is wrong it’s how we deal with situation that truly matters. I hope today we spark some ideas into your heads about the power of self writing. As always Keep it Plain =)
